Education
Fentress County takes great pride in our education system. We are proud to have a Roane State Community College campus, one of the most prestigious community colleges in the state of Tennessee. Roane State offers many programs which allow a student to transfer to institutions such as the University of Tennesee and Tennessee Tech. We are also home to the nationally renowned Alvin C. York Institute, named after and estabished by Sgt Alvin C. York, hero of World War I and Clarkrange High School, a perennial powerhouse in Tennessee Basketball and a National High School Chess Champion. Along with Roane State, Alvin C. York Institute and Clarkrange High School, Fentress County is home to one of the finest Pre-k thru 8th grade programs in the state. All of our schools are located strategically throughout the county offer easy access no matter where you decide to relocate. Fentress county has sought out some of the best teachers and instuctors the state has to offer and we invite you to drop by and see for yourself.

County Vehicle Registration:
Be sure to register
your license plate and auto with the Fentress County Clerk's office
at 101 South Main Street in the Courthouse. Hours are Monday - Friday,
8 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There is a $25 Fentress Priviledge Tax in addition

Voter Registration
Any citizen of the
United States who is or will be eighteen years of age or older before
the date of the next election and who is a resident of Tennessee may
register to vote (unless disqualified under the law) in Fentress County.
Register by obtaining and completing a voter registration form and filing
this with the local county election commission. You may register in
person or by mail. Call Sherlyn Stephens-York, Administrator of Elections,

Taxes
Property taxes can be paid at the Fentress County Trustee's Office located
at 101 Main Street South in Jamestown at the Fentress County Courthouse.

Utilities
& Hookups
Electricity
is provided by Tennessee Valley Authority. Volunteer Energy Cooperative
is the local distributor. Current rates can be obtained by contacting
VEC or visiting www.vec.org The local
VEC office is located at 1023 Old Hwy 127 South in Jamestown 931-879-5853.
Gas is provided by East Tennessee Natural Gas and distributed
locally by Jamestown Natural Gas. There is one fuel oil supplier and
3 suppliers of LP Gas in Fentress County. Current Rates for natural
gas can be obtained by contacting the City of Jamestown at 314 Central
Avenue East, Jamestown 931-879-7560.
Water
is also supplied by the City of Jamestown. Current rates can be obtained
by calling 931-879-7560. The source of water is a city lake, and capacity
is 3,000,000 MGC. Current consumption is 2,000,000 MGD. There is a storage
capacity of 2,500,000 gallons.
The City of
Allardt provides water for Allardt residents. Contact them at 2015 Michigan
Avenue in Allardt or 931-879-7125 for rates or hookup fees.
The Fentress
County Utility District also provides water to some residents. Contact
them at 1026 Taylor Place Road in Jamestown or at 931-879-7639.
Sewer
is provided by the City of Jamestown. Current rates can be obtained
by calling 931-879-8815. Activated sludge treatment is used, and capacity
is 1, 000,000 MGD. Current useage is 400,000 MGD, and city sewer cove
is 85%. There is solid waste disposal.
Cable
or Satellite are available through Comcast
Cable or Dish Network.

and Internet Services are available through Twin

Healthcare
Fentress County has eight medical clinics with doctors trained
in family practice, obstetrics, pediatrics, and internal medicine. Jamestown
Medical Clinic is a specialty clinic for specialty medicine.
Hospital
Jamestown Regional Medical Center, formerly Fentress County
General Hospital, admitted its first patient on March 1, 1960. The hospital
had 39 beds. As the community grew, there became a need for a larger
facility. On January 1, 1965, a 31 bed expansion opened.
During
the year of 1982, the hospital added a Physical Therapy Department,
Nuclear Medicine and Ultrasound Department; and expansion of the Emergency
Department from a one bed examination area to four beds.
Further improvements
were implemented in 1984. A new dining area was constructed. Three outpatient
rooms were added to the Emergency Department to provide an Outpatient
Treatment Area. In 1986, an area was constructed to house the Business
Office and Pharmacy. In 1987, a 14 bed Skilled Nursing Facility opened.
Presently,
Jamestown Regional Medical Center is a JCAHO accredited 85 bed hospital.
Named again for the sixth time, as Top 100 Hospitals in the Nation,
we continue to improve healthcare services for Fentress County and the
surrounding communities. As the years have passed, we have expanded
our services to meet the growing demands of our community and will continue
to do so.
Dental
Four dentists serve Fentress County. They include Dr. J. Michael
Allred of Allred Dental Care, Dr. Richard Buturff or Buturff Dental
Care.
Ambulance
The Fentress County Ambulance Service is a Class-A rated service,
the highest level of accreditation available to a pre-hospital emergency
provider. Responding to approx. 4600 calls per year, the staff of 12
full and part time paramedics along with 10 full and part time intermediate
EMT's. They are trained treat any and all emergencies that arise. The
Jamestown station is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a
year. The Clarkrange Station is open 12 hours per day.
Long
Term Care
Fentress County Care & Rehabilitation Center, located at
208 N. Duncan St right behind the hospital is a 140 bed facility, 46
of which are SNF beds. The facility offers a comprehensive rehabilitation
program including physical, occupational, and speech therapy. The Medicare-certified
facility is designed to treat complex medical problems or those recovering
from surgery or illness. Recreational activities and access to religious
services are available.
Pharmacy
Four pharmacies serve Fentress County. Burden's Drug Center,
Clarkrange Drug Center, Med-I-Thrift Pharmacy, and Wal-Mart Pharmacy.
They are equipped to handle any and all prescription needs.

Health
Home Comfort Medical Equipment, Buckeye Home Health Care, and Quality Home Health Care can meet the diverse
needs of personal care to the provision of home medical care equipment.
Optometry
& Opthamology
Eye Centers of Tennessee has an office located in Jamestown,
directly across from the hospital. Medicine and surgery of the eye,
including cataract and laser surgery are available here.
Fentress
County Health Department
Family Planning, counseling, and child development programs
are just a few of the services offered through the Health Dept. Public
health nurses and counseling assistants are available to assist families
in the care of their new baby to insure each child has health care available
to them. Dental services are also provided for children. Immunizations
are also provided. Qualified health care professionals provide all services.
There is a charge for services. Medicare, TennCare, and private insurance
claims are accepted.
